You are probably right. Unfortunately "Word" is becoming a generic term for "Word Processor" rather like "Hoover" has become a generic term for "Vacuum Cleaner"..

No "hoovering" in the US -- guess the company defended its trademark more vigorously here! There are a lot of common-use terms that really shouldn't be used, though, like "Thermos" and "Kleenex" for example. I think that the companies can actually lose control over the name if they don't actively defend it.
