What extension do the files have? In general, the ASCII Filter Options dialog means the type of
file is not being recognized by the application; either the extension is not one of the ones
supported, or it is missing altogether. Also, make sure that the "file association" for whatever
kind of file is involved is the correct one for that filetype -- you can usually check that, and
change it if necessary, by right-clicking a file and selecting Open With. Once you know the right
application is chosen (for example, swriter.exe for .odt files), you can select the option to always
use this application for this type of file.

The description of my problem is as follows:
When I open the document files, "ASC II Filter Options" pops up and tells me to
choose the appropriate character set, default font, language, and paragraph break.
However, whatever options I choose, the content of the document gets lost and
appears as below:
"
PsFh##Ð###³]}}dT###10-76045310##################################################################################################################################################################################Ûa5NOË#ÕŠì5F6Ë"
I do not believe that there is a problem with the document files themselves
because they worked properly before I formatted my computer.
I would appreciate if you could explain to me what I can do to fix the problem.
Thank you very much.

Dear Sir/Madam,
I used an older version of Open Office for my work. My computer was reformatted
and I had to reinstall it. I downloaded your latest version but could not open
my work with it. I could not find any older versions to download. Can you
please tell me where I can download older versions of Openoffice.
The newer versions should have no problem with files written by earlier
versions. Please describe what happens.
