I have Mac OS 10.4.11.
When I first tried to open OpenOffice, an error message came up that X11 was required. After
I installed X11, that message no longer appeared.
Whenever I try to open OpenOffice, it finds X11 and opens it; the icons for both programs
appear in the dock, and then the OpenOffice icon vanishes.
There is a bug using OOo 2.4.x with X11. Although there is a workaround, a better solution is
to use OOo 3.2.1. It does not require X11. Download it from
http://download.openoffice.org/index.html
