I know there's an update to my Open Office 3.3 program which I'm using
on a Windows XP computer, but I can't get it for love or money. Every
time I try, I get the message "Checking for an update failed" followed
by another message lower on the same screen, "Could not establish
network connection to update36.services.openoffice.org."
What is the difference between Open Office 3.6 and Open Office 3.3? I
don't use Open Office very much anyway, mainly for 2 purposes:
(1) When people send me Excel and/or Word documents which are too new
for me, I use Open Office to open and read them.
(2) If I need to convert an Excel workbook to a PDF file for my friends
who can't "see" the Excel (or who think they can't see it, which amounts
to the same thing).
Is it a big deal if I'm never able to update Open Office beyond the 3.3
version?
Sincerely,
Amy Lowenstein
