In the beginning, OOo required people to uncheck the boxes about
opening MS Office formats with OOo. We got a lot a mail about this very
topic because of that. Then that part of the installer was changed. The
person installing OOo had to check the boxes in order to change the
file associations to OOo. Now we get a lot of mail with the same
complaint. Now, if a person just clicks Next ... Next ..., he will not
have this problem.
Perhaps there is a third choice of the wording of this window of
the installer. "When you double click a MS Office file, in which
program do you want the file to be opened?" Then there would be three
choices (radio buttons): Neither, Microsoft Office, and OOo. Below that
there would be this explanation: "Regardless of your choice, both
Microsoft Office and OOo will still be able to open these files by
clicking File, then clicking Open, and then selecting the file."
