Mary,

I think that the biggest problem you have is that .obt is not being
recognized because this in not an OOo extension. The extension that I
think you want is .odt for automatic recognition. So I suggest that you
use the open dialogue and specify in the filetype field that the target
document is of the type OpenDocument Text. Chances are it will open
correctly.
