This is not really a problem.
CTRL+A is only selecting text within the table, it cannot select the
table, even though it appears to be doing so.
The DELETE key is designed primarily to delete *text*. It is a feature
of the keyboard and not of the word-processor.
You will find this to be true in using most word-processors.
