I selected the entire Spanish line, clicked on Asian Phonetic Guide, and
put the English terms in the boxes to the right of the Spanish words. I
selected left and bottom, and clicked on Apply. Nothing happened.
What did I do wrong?
I don't know. It works for me, but I have an unfair advantage - apparently
when I installed OOo, it detected that I have a Japanese computer and
automatically switched on whatever Asian language support stuff was
necessary, because unlike Matej, I didn't have to turn on anything. Do you
see the English words in the preview box at the bottom of the Asian Phonetic
Guide dialog box? You should see it appear even as you type in the English.
If something needs to be "turned on" for your system, perhaps someone with
experience using Ruby on an all-Western system can jump in and help.
