I cannot share your experience. I further find some (for me) major issues through M$ Office versions 97 to 2003 still there and working in OOo. E.g. working with negative times in Excel/Spreadsheet or correct handling of selecting changes in Word/Writer.

Some behaviour might be a little different as you might expect coming from M$ products but this is not always bad.
