Hi Carrie,

It is worth bearing in mind that when you download Open Office, and unzip the archive and run the installer, one of the first options that you get is the ability to set up whether to save in the various MS Word, Excel, Powerpoint formats as standard. I have selected this option everytime I have installed Open Office, as most of the people I have to communicate with are running MS Office.

I have been trying, though unsuccessfully to convert my work away from MS Office to Open Office, unfortunately like a lot of corporate IT people, they just love shelling out a fortune in licences, and cannot see that it is possible to not pay. But hey their loss. and our IT budgets loss.

I have found few if any times when files created by me on Open Office have not been instantly readable in the equivalent MS Office package.

Perhaps some of the more esoteric formulas in Excel stump Open Office Spreadsheet, but I doubt that this will affect your daughter in any material way.

Sometimes, Word documents, have minor formatting issues, though most of these are due to my choice of Font, font size and weight. These differences happen between different MS Word users too, so not really a great issue.

I hope this helps. Feel free to get back either on here or direct to my eMail address, if you require any more assitance.
