HI, First of all I am no computer guru so please send answer in layman
terms, thanks lol
I love openoffice and have openoffice.org 1.1.3 and make newsletter for
work, but I print it out and make copies for meetings.
I would also like to mail it too and have not been able to. As you can see
I am on Aol, is there a way to send as mail and if so please give step by
step detail.
thanks,
Jim

Yes you could send it as e-mail. You'ld have to make sure though that
the person at the other end also had OpenOffice or convert it to a
format they can read... here are a few ways to do it.
Save the file to somewhere you remember - e.g in My Documents.
Create a new e-mail in AOL.
Type in the address you want to send it to, the subject and main body of
the e-mail as usual.
Then before clicking Send Now in the bottom left hand corner there is a
button labelled "Attachments" click this. This brings up a new window
called the Attachments window. Click on Add. Find the file that you
saved and click on it and select Open.
In the attachments box you should have a new item in the list e.g.
C:\Documents And Settings\User\My Documents\Newsletter.ODT just click
Attach, you'll be back at the main e-mail and just click Send Now that
sends the e-mail.
If you are unsure about this see the following
site...http://www.mazoons.com/adding_email_attachments_AOL.htm this
gives you a full guide as to how to add an attachment in AOL.
The other thing is if the person you are sending your message to doesn't
have OpenOffice (even though it's free, it's highly unlikely that
they'll be too happy at being forced to install it just so they can read
your newsletter!) Here are ways to ensure it can be read by everyone.
The best way is to Export to PDF - pretty much everyone has Acrobat
Reader on their computer (or something else that can read Acrobat). In
the File menu of OpenOffice there is an option to Export To PDF, when
doing this you can tweak with some of the parameters but if you're a
novice it's probably best to just leave them alone and just save.
Another format which is quite popular is Microsoft Word format, the only
major problem with sending items out in this format is that the layout
of the document can get messed up. To do this just load your newsletter
into Writer and click Save As... in the Save As Type box change that to
Microsoft Word - 6.0 would give you greater compatability (including
WordPad), however has more chance of being messed up. Word 97/2000/XP
has lesser compatibility but less chance of being messed up. And save
it as a Word document. Overall you're probably better off sending it
out in PDF format.
Regards
Darren
