Help!!! I installed Openoffice - now it has taken over my computer. Every program now has extension of .LNK. Every ICON is Openoffice Icon. HELP!!

What happens when you click one of those lnk files? Does the program open? If you right click it, can you click "Properties" and then verify that this is a link and maybe even see where it goes? Are you really SURE that every program now has the extension of .lnk? What program are you using to write this email? Is it a web browser or an email program? In either case at least THAT program seems to work... or maybe you were writing it on another computer, of course.

Is really EVERY icon now an OpenOffice icon? Even those program links, all your video and music files or only your Office files?

When you installed OpenOffice, did you check some boxes (or maybe they were checked and you didn't uncheck them) saying something about that they should be checked if you want your office files to be opened with Open Office? And in that case, why did you theck them (or why didn't you uncheck them) if you didn't want Open Office to open them?

Well, don't worry about it. Open Office has probably not taken over anything. Even if there is an Open Office icon, you can still open your Word document with Word if you like. The Open Office installation program has only been assigned to those files as their default program. You can assign them back to whatever you like, if you want to. This question comes up all the time and someone usually replies with a link, telling you what do to. I don't have a clue where to find such a link, but I will search for one right now. Please wait...

Ok, I found at least one link. Took me a few seconds with google, I searched for faq openoffice "taken over". Here it is:
http://user-faq.openoffice.org/faq/ar01s04.html#id2811427

However, that lnk thing sounds very strange. Are you really sure about this?
