I read your post because I had some questions of my own about Base and was
hoping to be educated. As it was I was bitterly disappointed at your
unrealistic, vindictive, and vitriolic attack on Open Office and Sun
Microsystems.
Sure, Base is not perfect, not yet. It is new and there are still bugs to
be ironed out. Members have been calling for an alternative to M$ Access
for quite some time and the community has put a lot of effort into producing
Base. When the bugs are eliminated it will be an excellent product indeed.
I am very excited about it.
The rest of OOo leaves M$ Office for dead, and Sun Microsystems products,
since you mention them, are all of outstanding quality. As I said, you
vitriolic attack is completely unjustified, and counter productive. In the
highly unlikely event that Sun Microsystems took any notice of your comments
and disassociated itself from OOo.org, what would you have you achieved? ...
What you would have achieved is to have been instrumental in removing from a
worldwide community of volunteers, the financial, commercial, and logistical
support offered by Sun Microsystems, and thereby removed any chance of the
world at large ever obtaining an office suite that is at least equal to, if
not better than, the M$ product, but without the hefty Bill Gates price tag.
Anyway, Microsoft is not perfect. Windows 95 got to version C before they
nearly got it right; Windows 98 needed a re-write (Second Edition) and then
on-going updates; and XP is up to Service Pack 2, with ongoing updates.
Similarly, their Office suites have service packs and updates.
I say, go back to Microsoft; support Bill Gates & make him that iota
richer; and next time you have a support question you can phone Microsoft
for only $50 instead of writing to this forum for free. Meanwhile I would
like to congratulate the vast team of volunteers who donate their time
freely to this magnificent open source project.

I've tried to use your database. It is designed and developed very poorly. I
can't enter any data, getting error messages that don't make any sense. I
thought that I had found a substitute for MS Access but your product is
unusable. Guess you get what you pay for. This shows Sun Microsystems in a
very poor light. I'll stay away from all their products and recommend that
others do also.
