Cool! Naomi, do you have a summary online somewhere? A comparison of products is rather uncommon these days and it would be very useful to have the URL.

Not wanting to debate, here, but thought I'd throw some info in...

I write manuals for a living. Last year, I sat down and tested 4 products - 2 MSO versions, WordPerfect, and OOo 2 BETA. For our needs - relatively complex word-processing with export to PDF - OOo (even in beta form) finished a clear winner. Price was not taken into consideration. What I did take into consideration, with a large troublesome manual as test case, was:

  * Stability (the OOo beta crashed far less often than MSO)
  * Speed in opening a large document (OOo was a behind, here)
  * Speed and accuracy (did it look the same) in creating a PDF (OOo
    was a HUGE winner there)
  * Numbered styles (the document used a lot of numbering, which MSO
    mishandled - despite lack of complexity)
  * Useful (to me) features
  * Simplicity of common tasks (OOo was typically better here -
    logical screen design)

I think that's all.
