I want to write and to open documents in different languages, among them in
Russian (Cyrilic alphabet). Until now I have been working with microsoft word.
I had installed support for the three foreign languages I used to work with.
Essential for me weren't so much dictionaries and spelling check, but specific
keyboard support and the possibility to switch over by one mouse click (or
two)from one language to the other. I have just bought a new PC where word was
not pre-installed. So I decided to try OpenOffice.
But up to now (after 4 days) I couldn't manage to get the necessary support for
Russian. I told you about the first shock when I opened a russian word-file:
OO.o writer didn't refuse to do so, but prefered to show it in Hebrew.(As to
French, there is no real problem, though I would prefer writing with French
keyboard-version).
I got OO.o software by quickdownload - successfully, it seems. On the
respective websites I found lots of hints for additional/optional components,
but not what I was looking for. Then I bought a comprehensive guide
OpenOffice.org 2.0 by Michael Kolberg (I'm German)together with an
installation-CD. There I found PackFull.zip, which apparently contains support
files for many languages, Russian too. I downloaded all and saved it in my
OO.o-directory, but there was no installation wizard. On the other hand,
following the guide, I opened in the writer program Datei (file) - assistents -
install more dictionaries. The menue which appeared then enumerated
about 20 languages (Kurd, Slovenian ...!), but not Russian. Besides, as I told
you, it isn't dictionaries I am interested in, but simply support for writing
and reading documents in Cyrilic (there are several Cyrilic fonts installed on
my PC).
I wonder if somebody can show me the way to "Russian in writer, if possible not
too complicated and hard a way.
