I never used OOo to write a book BUT I KNOW that
Piers Anthony (Sci Fi writer) does. Uses Star Office, then
went to OO Writer when it came out. This was in his
Author's notes. Since he writes one 300+ page book
every 3 months, he should know.

Anybody know how to use Open Office to write a book? I mean in the
sense that MS Publisher can.
Master documents are your friend.
Also, is it possible to import CMYK photos into Oo so that they retain
their CMYK status?
I think that text in Oo can be coloured in CMYK?
Finally, when exporting the whole thing to PDF, will the document
(book) retain its CMYK properties, essential for commercial printing?
Maybe you should have a look at Scribus (Linux only for the time being).

Scribus isn't Linux only...
www.scribus.net
They have versions for Linux, Windows, and Mac OSĀ® X
