I had been following a number of nfs-related bugs in the bugzilla system
a while back. All of them I was watching have been marked 'closed', yet
nfs doesn't work for us ( or others ). In our case, there are file
locking issues - OpenOffice reports a 'general input/output error' ( or
something - it's been a while ).
We use smbfs with minimal issues. cifs is better, but nautilus doesn't
recognise cifs mounts yet.
