Does anyone know how to build OpenOffice without Java?
I need to read and write Word and XL documents, so I thought OpenOffice would be perfect. I downloaded the source for 2.0.2. Since I have a machine without java, I tried --with-java=gij but it failed to configure. It said that javadoc was missing. Well, javadoc does not come with GCC. I don't know if GNU has a version that I can get. If so, please tell me. So, does anyone know how to build OpenOffice without Java? I don't like java, and I want to keep it off my machine. In the past, with both Windows and Linux, it has consumed most of my system's resources. There are also questions about its security. But, anyway, to install openoffice, I downloaded java from sun's site. Well, not only did java use 98% of my CPU cycles and 48% of the memory, but also went into an infinite loop. Of course, I don't really know it it was infinite, but when I came back to my computer 4 hours later, it was still running, and the output still had a size of 0 bytes. The same occured with the precompiled JDK 1.5.0-06 and with the JDK 1.5.0-05 that I compiled here. So, does anyone know how to build OpenOffice without Java? Now, don't try to tell me that --without-java is the way to go. I tried that. But dmake still insists on trying to build everything that needs java. After I hacked the hsqldb makefile to not build, it went on to sandbox, then java parts of berkeleyDB, then XmlSearch, then ridljar, then jurt, then jni_uno. After two hours of fighting with the build process, I give up. So, does anyone know how to build OpenOffice without Java? I tried changing SOLAR_PLUGIN="TRUE" to FALSE in LinuxIntelEnv.Set.sh and resourcing it. The build still insists on trying to build everything with java. So, does anyone know how to build OpenOffice without Java? Please answer me directly (the dot mad dot doctor dot kaeding at g mail dot c o m). Thank you.
