Good Questions ... sorry for my lapse.
These are all different systems. All are OO 2.0.2 One system is
Windows NT (no problems); one is Win XP home on a Gateway laptop (no
problems) and the problem system is Win XP home, 512 meg RAM, 58 gig
free space on the drive I'm using for OO. Everything else seems to
run well on the system in question ... including MSO.
This is my second try ... OO removed, rebooted, re-installed from a
fresh d/l
Other modules seem to run fine ... it's just writer.
Thanks for the reply

I have two installs of Open Office working very well ... but this
third one is driving me nuts.
Are these all on the same system? Or each on a different computer?
Operating system? Version of each installation of OOo?
Everything except Writer seems to run
perfectly. Writer will try to open, I will get the OpenOffice.org
title bar across the top of my screen ... and sometimes I even get
one ruler! After that appears OO hangs ... sometimes I need to
reboot, sometimes I can shut the application. There are no error
messages. Any ideas?
That will depend on the answers to the previous questions. If they
all the same version of OOo on the same version of operating
system, on different PCs, then perhaps there is a hardware
(memory?) fault.
I would suspect a faulty download. Did you check the md5sum?
I had a similar problem once, discovered there was a bad copy on the
mirror I downloaded from, so fresh download didn't solve the problem.
