am not qualified to answer.
The question about GIMP I do know. GIMP is definitely compatible with
Windows. I've been using it for quite a while now, and I'm on Windows XP.
(FWIW, I've found GIMP to be relatively slow in image handling compared
to a couple of commercially available programs I've tried. Not sure if
anyone else has had similar experience or not.)
