type 'bar {your text}' (without the quotes) and you get text,
that is overlined.

1) open text file with writer
2) place cursor
3) in the lower window, type
bar test test test
4) hit Enter
I do not get test test test with a bar over it.
The problem is step 3. What you type should be:
overline {test test test}
This will give you approximately this:

test test test

A couple of things...
The step you are missing, Pete, is the step this guys are assuming ;)
Click the Insert menu, choose Object, then Formula. Click in the bottom
part of the window and then type
overline {test test test}
click any where in the document
using bar {test test test} only give you a little tiny overline in the
middle of the text
Thanks. Did they say curly bracket? I'm afraid I saw it as a
parenthesis.
