"Reveal code" is Word Perfect's way of determining the format of
a document. OpenOffice.org uses Styles for this function. Some people
are most comfortable using reveal codes, and others prefer styles.
The original poster is in the first group.
These is a thread in the archives of this mailing list about
which one is better, and we do not need another discussion about this
again.
If you do not understand how to use styles in OOo, I recommend
you learn. There are several documents available to help you from
http://documentation.openoffice.org/manuals.
There are two OOo 2.0 User's Guides available for download there.
http://documentation.openoffice.org/manuals/oooauthors2/index.html
contains a list of Guides and individual chapters contained in them.
