Hi, I just heard about your web site, open office.org.
Someone built a computer for me before he moved last year. It has, Microsoft Windows XP, Home Edition, Vers. 2002, Service Pack 2, with with a 64 processor, 3,000+, 1.81 GHz, 1.00 GB of ram. I have have a CD rom with several files on it. They were pulled off of my old computer, a Macintosh. I had Corel Word Perfect on it for many years before they updated us to Word. So many of my older files are in Corel WordPerfect. When I try to open some of these CD files on my new computer (Windows XP Home edtion), a few will open fine in MS Word. Other files will not open. I will get a message from Microsoft "Choose a program you want to open this file". So I choose MS Word. MS Word opens and then the box starts flashing. Finally a file conversion box will open and it will show garbage words instead of the words form the letter I tried to open up. On the screen that shows the listing of all the files on my CD you will see the word Type at the top of the screen, that describes the file, it just shows the word File. It doesn't say wpd (word perfect) or wd (microsoft word) just the words File for most of my files on the CD. I opened up the Download open office. The dialog box said it would take over 8 hours to download your installation. I have dial up out here in the country, no other options. Can you help me find a way to open up my old Word Perfect files off of this CD rom? Do you have anything I can down load? Will it take several hours to down load? Thank you very much.
