If he has an old (pre-Intel Mac, wouldn't he just be better off to install NeoOffice which is native for the old Mac? I've been using it on my pre-Intel Mac iBook and move files from OOo on my PC to it and back all of the time perfectly. Previously I used the version of OOo that required Terminal, but first had to download and install that program. While OOo worked well under Terminal the wait time to get it going was annoying.

I've always wondered what the issues were between OOo for the MAC and NeoOffice and was happy to learn that there is a version of OOo for the Intel MAC.

Thanks -- now all I need is a new Mac. :)

Dear Sirs,
I just downloaded openoffice2.0.3. for Mac OS10.4.
I could not open OPENOFFICE, because I was requested to Install
APPLE X11 first. Doing this I got the window: "You can`t install this
programm because a newer Software is already installed on your computer".
But without X11 OPENOFFICE can not be started.
Can you give me information about this problem?
Thank you very much
