[users] install & X11

I am on a mac --- OS 10.4.7........I have installed x11 and  
openoffice 2.0.......
when I try to open "openoffice", I get a message that says I need to  
install x11 ---- so, I attempted to install again. Then I get a  
message that says the installation cannot be complete, because I have  
a newer version already installed....I tried to trash and start  
again, but I get another meeage that says I don't have sufficient  
privileges to complete that command.......

any thoughts?
What can I do to get this program to work??
