Hi All;

I think Alain is absolutely right. The guy who started this thread
maybe a complete AH; he certainly has attitude problems. But ...

It is a good reminder. I have recently had the opportunity to show some
beginners how to get started using their new computers. When I say
beginners I don't mean newbies, I mean people who have never touched a
computer before and often come to the computer with a frightened and
negative attitude. (I reiterate, this guy who start the thread was just
an AH, probably trolling). Some of those beginners were ready to throw
the damn think across the room and out the window. Most of us don't
remember how absolutely frustrating and un-intuitive a first time
computer experience can be.

Put buttons, hints and instructions all over the place. Make it so
experienced users can get rid of them with a mouse click or two,
beginners on the other hand will weep with thanks.

I personally live in Linux, (which is no better in this regard and can
some times be worse). Linux used to have -- maybe some distributions
still do -- a Start Here icon for newbies which to me was never fully
exploited.

Remember, being IT oriented is not a natural human condition. There is
nothing intuitive or obvious about how it should work. Ask some of
those frustrated beginners what they were trying to do and how *THEY*
naturally thought it should be done.

They just want to get on with their work, their project or their fun.
