I can't see how that answers the question why this only occurs with Linux
and not with Windows... but on the other hand, it was not me who asked.

Both ODS and DOC formats embed the fonts used to produce the document in
the
file. Besides, OO ODS is a zip file (you can open it with an unzip tool).
That is one of the reasons why ODS files are bigger then SXW. I think that
will answer your questions.
