In addition to the other suggestions you can also try:
http://distribution.openoffice.org/cdrom/index.html#cdrom

However, if you know someone with a DSL or cable connection you might
ask them to download for you.

Note to the OOo folks: while the cdrom link list tons of distributors,
it might be worth taking the Ubuntu route and actually offering OOo on
CD for free (see: https://shipit.ubuntu.com/). I doubt that it would
detract or take away much business from the distributors listed on the
OOo page, and will get OOo into the hands of thousands of folks who are
on dialup and/or in remote locations where internet connections are
unreliable. If nothing else, you might make a note on the page for
distributors that offer OOo on CD for free or for a simple shipping cost.

Note to OP: there are distributors on that page that will send you OOo
for free, unfortunately you'll need to search through them to find one
that does. Sample:

United States
205LAN LLC USA All stable releases.
   http://www.freeofficesoftware.net/
[not obvious, enter "open office" in the search box that leads to

Free OpenOffice 2.0
Complete OpenOffice 2.0 Office Suite - Free!
www.ThinkAll.com
    then
      http://www.thinkall.com/product_openoffice_about8.htm

Disclaimer: I've no idea who thinkall.com are, or if what they are
offering is solid, I'm just using them as an example. Obviously you'll
need to give up some marketing info & probably have to subscribe to
their marketing info, but that is sometimes the price you need to pay to
get something shipped to you for free. Google is your friend :-)
