Just tried it under Windows 2000 and I get what you see - empty boxes.
I'm now trying various things using fontforge, but I don't know enough
about font file internals to do much.
... (later)
By fumbling around I've managed to get a font file that works with OOo
under Windows, although I suspect all it needed was a forced
regeneration of some part of the font file because I then undid the
change and it still works.
I've put the new file up on my ISP-provided web space for anyone who
wants it. And please let me know if I'm halucinating, i.e. it doesn't
work for you.

Ross: Thanks very much, your modified font DOES work for me. I'm not at
all sure what you did, but it was successful.
I do have a question; I can now use this font through the menu path
Insert > Special Character, so it's working and that's the important
thing. But why does it only work by that path, as opposed to just typing
in a letter which is supposed to give, in this font, an orienteering
symbol? For example, I tried the Symbol font, and it gives its special
symbols from just typing, OR from using Insert > Special Character.
Anyway, this last question is of secondary importance, I'm up and
running which is the important thing. Thanks again for your help.
