I have just installed Open Office. I am running Windows XP version 5.1
w/ service pack 2 installed.
I am trying to create a database using open office base program.
This is what I do and the error message I get.
I use the start menu to find OpenOffice.orgBase and open it.
I leave the radio buttons on the default "create new database" and go to
the next step, again leaving the radio buttons as is "yes, register the
database for me" and checking "Open the database for editing".
I click 'finish' and save it with the exciting title of 'new database'
because I'm just playing here.
All good so far, but when I click on the Tables icon, because I wish to
create a few tables, I get this message:
"The connection to the datasource "New Database" could not be established"
Selecting "more" yields
Error code: -1
java/sql/Savepoint
I believe that I am not perhaps understanding how this program works. I
expected it to behave rather like Access, as that would seem to be the
analogous program?
Am I supposed to be connecting to something? I did not think so.
Is there something that I need to patch or otherwise alter in my Windows
setup?
I have spent about 1/2 hour shuffling through the various faqs on the oo
site and even tried a google search to no avail.
Thanks for reading all that
