Dan, Thank you for getting back to me.
I also noticed that I can get the word-count feature in Tools to work by entering a character. However, it does not seem to work consistently or accurately. For example, when I was working this morning, initially, before I began to revise a document that I had called up from memory, my word-count totals for both "current selection" and "whole document" were 0 and 0 -- obviously incorrect, since the document from memory ran for about a page and a half. After I began to type, I received a "whole document" word-count of 850 words. No matter how many words I added, the reading remained 850 words. Then I highlighted a significant section of text and ran the word-count feature. It told me that the "current selection" -- that is, the highlighted area -- contained 899 words, while the "whole document" contained 850 words. I have noticed other, similar errors and lack of consistency in the operation of the feature, which leads me to suspect that it is plagued by a significant bug. I wish I could be more help, but I have absolutely no experience with code. I am only a writer -- a literary writer, that is -- and while I write a good deal about advanced technology (see my book MICROCHIP, available at Amazon.com and in bookstores, for instance), unfortunately I cannot create advanced tech. Thanks once again for your attention to my problem, Jeff Z. >From: Dan Lewis <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> >Date: 2006/10/25 Wed AM 10:15:04 CDT >To: [email protected] >Cc: JEFFREY ZYGMONT <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> >Subject: Re: [users] Word count feature in Writer does not work >On Monday 23 October 2006 08:52 pm, JEFFREY ZYGMONT wrote: >> I am using v. 2.0.4 of OpenOffice.org, which I downloaded as soon >> as I received e-mail notification that the upgrade was available. >> The word-count feature in OpenOffice Writer does not work.
