oops my bad.. I mistook the reference to the converter MS is providing which is one way.. I wish the project luck. But I notice that MS is a sponsor just
from this I don't give it much hope in the long run..   I just read the

I think it will depend on whether the various governments who are insisting on ODF stick to their guns, and how much Microsoft want part of the pie.

If all of that happens, and a large percentage of public documents are in ODF format, then Microsoft Office will have to be able to read them if they want to be in the game at all. And if they want Word to be able to create any of those documents (or even just edit them), then they will have to be able to save to ODF as well.

Time will tell.
