I've noticed other undesirable effects of the QuickStarter on Windows
(where it remembers things that get in the way later) and wonder if
it's possible to disable it altogether.

On Windows, to disable Quickstarter *after* installation:
1. Start Writer, go to Tools>Options and click the "+" sign next to "OpenOffice.org" to
open its sub-list; then click Memory and uncheck the box labelled "Load Openoffice.org during system
startup". This will prevent Quickstarter starting the next time you re-boot.
Aah. Thanks Harold. I'll give that a try too.
