No CC anywhere, and all say Send by OOo
maybe the difference is 2x the same answer to address?
I can *always* CC to the OP, but that gets tiring in the end.
Any suggestions?
We have had this conversation in this list several times over the
last few months. The last time was only about 10 days ago so I'm
surprised to see it cropping up again.
The way this list works allows non-subscribed people to send e-mails
to the list. The *only* way to tell if an OP is subscribed or not is
by examining the e-mail headers, either by software (e.g Thunderbird
filter) or by eye/brain.
The OP is *not* subscribed if and only if the header "Delivered-To:
moderator for [email protected]" exists. If you reply to a message
from an unsubscribed OP and do not explicitly include his/her e-mail
address in the To: or Cc: list of your reply then the OP will *not*
see the fruits of your labour. The whole point about not subscribing
is that you don't get the 100's of irrelevant (to you) messages per
day that the list can generate.
Note that these headers seem *sometimes* ? to be removed if you
follow the list via Gmane. I think this is related to the
difference(s) between the Mail and News protocols (SMTP vs NNTP). I
am not sure exactly what happens if you reply via Gmane: do
additional e-mail addresses get honoured? In other words, would an
unsubscribed OP see a reply sent via Gmane even if his/her address
were explicitly included? Always? Harold Fuchs

Hi Harold, I agree this is becoming almost an FAQ for replies.
I use gmane and read it with Thunderbird. I have the "all headers"
extension installed and can click an icon on my toolbar which allows
me to see the "moderator" delivery. If I see that, then I try to
remember to CC the OP. Of course if the "moderated" is included in
the subject line this is easier.

Russell, thanks for the info about Gmane.
Unfortunately the presence or absence of "moderated" in the subject line
is not even close to being a reliable indicator of the status
(subscribed or not) of the OP. I have no idea why.
