Go to http://download.openoffice.org/2.0.4/. Click the "Download
OpenOffice.org" box. It should expand so that you can choose your
operating system. The last line in this expanded box is "Please check
the md5sum." Click the word md5sum, and you are taken to a new page.
Follow the instructions there to check your download. It even tells
you where to go to get the md5sum for your downloaded file. If the
sequence of numbers and letters matches what it on the web page for
your operating system, you have a good file. If it does not, you have
a bad file.

A few tips on installing OOo if you have an anti-virus program or
firewall running. First, physically disconnect from the Internet.
Second, make sure you have administrative rights, or log off and log
back in as the administrator. Third, close your anti-virus and
firewall programs. Fourth, install OOo. Fifth, restart your
anti-virus and firewall programs. Sixth, reconnect your computer to
the Internet. (If in step 2 you had to log off and log back in as the
administrator, you will want to log off and log back in as a user.)
