I was wondering if someone could tell me how to make sure that when I
add a word to a dictionary the spellcheck will recognize it next time
I open the document. Right now if spellcheck puts a red line I right
click and select add. Then I select the "standard" dictionary.
Subsequently the word is recognized for that session. However, if I
close and reopen, it again puts a red line. How do I make sure that it
will always recognize the added word in future sessions?

I remember there being a problem somewhere around version 2.02 or 2.03 with settings not being remembered. There was definitely a problem with the program forgetting words added to the spelling dictionary.

If you have one of these versions (if you're not sure, Help / About OpenOffice.org will tell you which version you are using), I recommend you upgrade to the latest version.

If you are using a more recent version, perhaps you could tell us which version you are using, as well as which operating system, so we can help you further.
