     I find the behavior a little strange. Perhaps it is the windows 
version. I am using 2.1 on Linux. I opened a *.odt file that I 
created over a year ago. When I opened the File menu, Versions was 
NOT grayed out. I then made some changes to the document and saved 
those changes using File > Versions and clicking the Save new version 
button.
