Just picking up on this thread from back in March (and elsewhere),
what I'm looking for is NOT reveal codes -- anyone can get them from
the
XML -- but a margin display of the style used against each
paragraph-level object in my document, so I can see at a glance what
named style has been applied and where, without having to select it and
see what gets highlighted in the Style dock.
Word does this in the Normal display if you set the Style Margin Width
to a non-zero value, but OO doesn't seem to be able to show this info
(unless I've missed it somewhere).
I don't think it is possible via the interface.
OK, thanks. That's a pretty fundamental omission if the intention is
to encourage people to use named styles for consistency. If the only
way to see what style has been applied to a specific chunk is to
highlight it and bring up the Styles window each time, it's just going
to be too tedious for anyone to use.
The applied style of a paragraph is shown in the toolbar. You only need
to put the cursor in the specific paragraph.
Without this visual confirmation, OO is only marginally usable for
consistent styling.
Consistent styling is something the author must do himself. If you want
them the follow a certain pattern then you can define this pattern in
the styles. For example if you want a Header1 to be followed by Text1
and then by Text2, you just put it in the definition of the style.
If you want to learn more about styles and the way OO is handling them
take a look on this site:
