Dear sir I am downloading and installing windows Environment X11 for Mac for Open Office, for a G4 tower. I am sorry I have no idea how to use your download install format. It is appropriate for computer nerds only. Don't understand. I was surprised to find that it took 3 hours to download the it said I did not have X11 installed and could not find appropriate instructions. I have your Open Office downloaded on my desktop. X11 is not in my utilities and I have no idea if it is installed or how to install it. Is it not installing because I can't use it due to no X11. There must be a better way of downloading and installing than this. Please help! After 3 hours of downloading I don't want to loose it.
John Wishart Dear John All beginnings are difficult, especially when you get things for free... You might take a look at the installation information for OpenOffice.org on a Mac: http://porting.openoffice.org/mac/ If X11 isn't in your utilities folder (Applications/Programs > Utilities), you will have to install it from your Mac OSX installation disk(s) (CD or DVD). Once the right version of X11 (there's a different one for Panther OSX 10.3and Tiger OSX 10.4), running OOo won't pose any problems (just takes some extra time the first time to make your fonts usable). There's a lot of information, guides and how-to's available on the OpenOffice.org site If you still get stuck, come back with your question here at the mailing list. -- Guy using dutch OOo 2.1 RC 2 on a iMac Intel DualCore Tiger and dutch OOo 2.1 RC 1 on a G4 PPC Powerbook Tiger -- please reply only to [email protected] -- Dodoes can't afford to have headaches
