While looking for genealogical data in the Netherlands I came across
several in ODP format which I duly downloaded and could not open. So I
downloaded OpenOffice 2.1 with the sole hope of being able to view and /
or extract the data to Excel or Word. Not a chance!
Instead, when I open one of these ODP files I get literally thousands of
pages filled with blank space, many hash signs and non-printable
characters. All I want to do is open the file, convert it to a
spreadsheet, and use it as simple sortable database. Some help would be
appreciated as I am frustrated beyond belief
I have Windows XP Prof SP2 with Microsoft Office XP (2002) SP3 - I do
not want to go to Office 2007 to be able to (hopefully) convert ODP
files\
Thanks
Frustrated ODP user?
I think this may help:
http://filext.com/detaillist.php?extdetail=odp&Search=Search
Specifically, ODP is not only associated with open office presentation
files, but Oedipus genealogy files as well.
Here's where you download Oedipus, I think:
http://www.lamain.nl/oedipus/odp530.htm
Unfortunately, since I don't speak Dutch, can't help you there.
Although my main interest is genealogy I do not know the Oedipus software.
However, I use Legacy and they compile the family data using Access database
.mdb but rename the extension to .fdb. To get this into OOo using XP I
simply change the extension from .fdb to .mdb then click on the Open Office
icon in the notification area and import
I wondered if Oedipus also use Access and whether a similar technique would
work?
