In addition to Dan's comments about file associations, please be aware that
OpenOffice can read and write all but the most complex MS office documents
but that the converse is not true. MS Office is deficient in that it cannot
handle the International Standards Organisation's (ISO) Open Document Format
(ODF) which is what OO uses.
