OpenOffice.org will run on Win 98 as long as the processor is
fast enough (Pentium class or higher), you have enough RAM (125 MB
minimum, but 512 MB is much better), and you have at least 200 MB of
empty space on your hard drive.
I have Openoffice.org 2.0.4 running on a Win 98 SE partition of
my laptop.
