No, it is not possible to download one component. OpenOffice.org
is designed as an integrated suite of applications. It has a core
component consisting of more than 75% of the total size that all the
applications use. There would be at best a very small difference in
download file size.
While you can do a custom install, each component other than the
core component is only a few MB out of the total 200 MB. So, even
that would not really save enough space to make a difference.
Secondly, one application may use another application for part of
its work. For example, to look up Help for Draw requires the Writer
component. To create drawings in Impress (the slide show creator)
requires that Draw be installed also. Base (the database component)
requires Writer to create the forms. Writer requires Draw for and
graphics created in a text file.
