Another option is to use NeoOffice, which is based on OpenOffice but runs a little slower. It uses the native Apple interface instead of X11 (ie it looks nicer). NeoOffice does not suffer from this issue so you would be able to save to MS format.

Dear Sirs,
my girlfriend has aa Apple MacBook Pro, with OpenOffice installed.
After doing a presentation, when trying to save it as a Microsoft Office
Powerpoint, The OpenOffice starts pops up an error and starts the
OpenOffice.org Document Recovery program saying:"Due to an unexpected
error, OpenOffice.org crashed. All the files you were working on will be saved now. The next time OpenOffice.org is launched, your files will be
recovered automatically."
After recovering the file it informs that clicking the next button the
Error Report Tool should open. This does not happen!
I talked to a friend that knows a little more about OpenOffice and MAC computers and I gave him the presentation file to be converted to the ppt
format.
He managed to convert it without a problem, and he told me that there was
allready version 2.1 of OpenOffice available.
I instaled this new 2.1 version on the MAC and tried to repeat the same action now with this new program. For my surprise the problem also exists
with version 2.1!
What can this be?
How can I get support on this?
How and where can I send the report log file and the presentation file so that it can be verified, without having a internet connection directly on
the mac?

I hope you can help me with this matter.

Looking forward to hear from you.

Best Regards

Pedro Melo

Pedro,

Unfortunately, it's a known issue that OOo 2.x-for-Mac crashes when you try to save a Impress file in M$ ppt format. The bug will hopefully be solved
with the next release of OOo...
In the meantime: let some Linux or Windows user of OOo do the conversion to
ppt or... distribute OOo to those who have to see the presentation.
