Have you tried changing the default settings?
Go Tools => Options
Click the + sign by the Load/Save option
On the bottom right of this dialog, there should be a dropdown box below the
text "Always save as". Make sure OpenDocument Text is selected, then click
"OK".

I just installed OO2.1. When I had OO2.0, it started to save all of
my text documents in file format. It used to save everything in OpenDocument
Text format (which is what I want). When I upgraded to 2.1 I thought it
would correct the problem but it didn't. How can I make it go back to saving
