Whatever I try, I won't get it to work.
When I open any of the menu's where I can select the
language, the Basque one appears with the blue check mark, so it is
available. But when I type something it doesn't work. Going back to the
same menu now shows the check mark also disappeared.
See if there is a file Linguistic.xcu in folder opt\OpenOffice.org
2.0\share\registry\data\org\openoffice\Office. If so, try to delete it.

There is no such file, nowhere in the openoffice installation dir. It
was in the homedir of openoffice, but renaming to something else had no
effect
