A first comment about the tables idea, not a technical one, something more general. I think using frames for labels is a very natural idea - not something to be different for its own sake. I really believe that the developers of this features chose frames because it looked natural to them, not because they wanted to be different than the competition (though I don't know what was the state of the art more than ten years ago). Anyway, if tables turned out to be superior it surely would be a good idea to use them. I already discovered some things that are easier to do with frames thouhg they are also possible with tables. As an example, if you change the size of the first frame of a labels document all others get the same size (even if the *content* of the labels isn't synchronized). Doing this with OOo tables needs some more thinking of the user or some new table features to avoid that. Let's see what else comes up.
