Dear Openoffice-Team or experienced Users
for many years I am using Lotus Smart suite files.
In fact, my first experiences with the PC activities were with Lotus 1-2-3
Spreadsheet,
many years ago, when the program was still sold on the large 5 1/4" floppy
disks.
I was using many different types of software since, with troublesome &
complicated
software for making graphics or other s/w for statistics, packages like
"Enabled" etc.
All the years I was using Lotus, including their office-package "Smart Suite"
and I am still
using it. The reasons ? Principally, I wanted to support other software than
Microsoft (!)
and in many cases I do find the features of the Lotus WordPro and Lotus 1-2-3
better than
Microsoft's competitive packages.
Obviousely, I could not avoid to use the Microsoft-Office packages as well,
because they
became too dominating and one needs to communicate with others.
Since IBM has taken over Lotus some years ago, they did not really further
develope
the components of the Lotus-Smart-Suite -
WordPro (*.lwp)
Spreadsheed 1-2-3 (*.123)
Presentation Freelance (*.prz)
Approach Database (*.apr)
Organizer (*.or5).
So, I am coming to the point, where I need to change my major working software.
But, if I can avoid Microsoft, I want to do it.
Since the so called "short trials" on the PC, with quickly trying something
new, always became
very - very long trials with a lot of frustrations and a huge lot of lost time,
I am trying
herewith to get the opinion of you:
*** is it possible, to import and use the above mentioned file-types in the
"Openoffice" software ?
*** if YES, are there any hints or tricks to be applied or is it as easy as it
is told on the
webpage of the "Openoffice" software ?
Your short comments will be very useful and - may be - I will become an
"aficiniado" or fan
to the "Openoffice" software.
*** Just one additional Question:
Does the "Openoffice-Software support the new "U3" technology with the
USB-Flash-Drives ?
Thanks a lot in advance for your kind comments.
Mit freundlichen GrĂ¼ssen / Best regards
