It works in OOo for characters below 0255 (corresponding to the ASCII
code),
this is why the decimal reference is not shown with the hex one in the
Special Characters dialog for characters above.

Yes, I know OO supports ASCII. I don't understand why it doesn't seem to
support Unicode properly; how do I get it to support Unicode data entry
using the platform's standard methodology?

I could sort of understand if OO did nothing when faced with high character
values because then one could say OO doesn't support Unicode, but OO
actually does it wrong - it enters a heart symbol instead of an accented
"a". Isn't OO supposed to support Unicode?
