I am using Kubuntu Edgy right now. The only way to get Open Office 2.1 in Edgy is to manually download the rpm and convert it using alien to deb. When I installed in this manner the program was placed into the /opt directory vice /usr/bin. You will more than likely need to manually add Open Office to the applications menu after installing in this manner.
Feisty is now in Beta, and will go stable mid April. My understanding is that Open Office 2.2 is being placed into the Feisty repositories......if not 2.2 definitely 2.1. I will know myself soon enough as I am in the midst of testing the Edgy to Feisty upgrade tool. For detailed instructions on how-to install OO on ubuntu read: http://www.oooforum.org/forum/viewtopic.phtml?p=184259#184259 hope this helps....
